My spouse expressed frustration at the problem of the tissue box being lifted along with the tissue so of course the obvious solution was a tissue box cover to hold it down. The more normal among us might just go out and buy one of the billion or so on offer, but of course I was going to use that as an excuse to make one. I was in the middle of another couple projects at the time, so I whipped up a quickie Maple-and-elastic-band version one evening to work until I could slot it into my woodworking schedule.
I did a quick perusal of all billion of the off-the-shelf solutions (thank you, or perhaps curse you, Internet) and while I didn't really like anything I saw, the basic cube shape seemed the best starting point. I settled on a conventional cube-shaped cover with rounded top and incised sides with Purpleheart as the wood to match the color scheme of the bathroom. I used a sort of a water-puddle motif for the sides that I thought might be interesting.
The
construction process was pretty straightforward with the five faces being glued together with simple pinned butt joints. I used a laminated blank for the top to try to get a more-interesting grain pattern, but the effect is pretty subtle. The sides were shaped with Dremel cutting bits and a small spherical grinding bit was used to produce the background texture.
